As a hyperrealist painting with acrylics, I am inspired primarily by Nature, which provides everything I need. That said, I have been influenced by painters like Brian La Saga, a Canadian artist who also specializes in Nature, the New Zealand artist Graham Sydney and the young Serbian painter Veljko Djurjevic, whose paintings of mountains and forests are sublime. Prior to actually painting, I may take as many as half a dozen to 40 or 50 photographs of a scene from different angles and perspectives, including close-up details. I then concentrate on the composition, perspective, balance and colour,. I use photographs only for reference. Unlike photorealists, I do not merely copy photographs, but interpret them in order to create my own...
